Lineage
Lineage explores Shea's journey toward belonging in a world that often felt foreign. The artist's mother, grandmother and great-grandmother were each adopted, and each searched for her roots and a place to belong. This work honours their journeys and ties their stories together.
Like a quilt, the work is pieced together, a skill shared by most of the women in Shea's family and one the artist wanted to contribute to in glass. It is made from 600 pieces of upcycled, found and donated glass, each hand cut and leaded together. Light shines through the lines and hearts, tracing the roads travelled by Shea and by the ancestors and loved ones who came before, bringing these stories together at last.
Shea hopes it resonates with anyone who has felt this way too.
